About Us
The Elk Grove Charter School is committed to creating individualized educational opportunities for students by combining classroom instruction, independent study instruction, and community and workplace educational experiences. This educational approach is for students who seek an alternative to the traditional classroom-only instructional approach. It is also an alternative to the Elk Grove Unified School District's comprehensive and continuation high school programs.

Parental support and involvement continue to be important aspects of success at Elk Grove Charter School. Parent support and involvement is facilitated through governance meetings. These meetings assist Elk Grove Charter School in making critical decisions about instructional goals and the scope of our program.
Students at Elk Grove Charter School follow the Elk Grove Unified School District requirements to earn either a Comprehensive High School Diploma or a Continuation Diploma. Therefore, in order to best meet the needs of our students, Elk Grove Charter School provides curricular instruction in both a traditional direct-instruction format and in an independent study environment. Specifically, our 7th through 10th grade students complete their core curriculum (i.e. English, Math and Science) in the traditional classroom setting.
All other curriculum is delivered via the independent study model of instruction. 11th and 12th grade students function completely as independent study students. However, we do offer support workshops to students in subjects that have proven to be historically difficult to self teach.

Middle School Education
EGCS offers a middle school program for 7th- and 8th grade students. These students complete their core curriculum (English, Math, Science, and History/Social Science) through direct-instruction workshops that meet Monday-Friday for approximately a three hour block of time. The remainder of the middle school curriculum is completed through ISP. Middle school ISP courses are facilitated through each student's weekly advocacy period core workshop.
High School Education (9th & 10th Grades)
Students in grades nine and ten participate in required, direct-instruction core workshops covering English, Math, Science, and History/Social Science. These workshops run Monday through Friday, with two classes held each afternoon for approximately three instructional hours daily. Schedule adjustments may occur based on yearly enrollment and program development. Additionally, ninth and tenth-grade students may be assigned supplementary workshops by their ISP or advocacy teacher to further support their academic success.
High School Education (11th & 12th Grades)
Enrollment for students in grades 11 and 12 is predominantly in independent study courses. Because of EGCS’s small facility and alternative scheduling, 11th and 12th grade workshops meet at non-standard days and times. Additionally, with the school’s schedule for these workshops is non standard, transportation must not be a factor and all students and parents/guardians agree to attend workshops and academic activities as assigned by the school.
