Welcome to the 2015-16 school year. The teachers and staff of EGCS have been working diligently to prepare for the arrival of students. Every year there are changes to the school’s program and staffing and this year is no different. Mrs. McKim retired and the school's Spanish teacher decide it was time to try something else. We are excited to present Mrs. Gallacher as a new Independent Study teacher and we are working on filling the Spanish position and building the school's foreign language department.

Mrs. Gallacher comes to us from Pleasant Grove High School with many years of teaching experience. She has been a classroom English teacher, but comes to EGCS with personal experience and excitement for the world of independent study. She is starting out working with 11th-grade students. In addition to new staff, EGCS has made extensive changes to the school’s curriculum and course offerings. Including moving some teaching assignments around to meet then needs of the school. Mrs. Robinson a long time ISP teacher will add classroom teaching to her assignment as she is the 7th/8th - grade social science teacher. Also, Mrs. Van Buren is following suit as she is the 9th-grade social science teacher.

With the second year of CCSS implementation, EGCS's math and English teachers are excited to start making improvements to the already good curriculum and instruction delivered last year. Continuing this year allEGCS students will be enrolled in the school’s Independent Reading course. One of EGCS’s focus areas is on improving the reading skills of all students. There is no better way to do that than by reading. Look for more information and details from your student’s ISP teacher.

Lastly, EGCS prides itself on its technology use and integration. This year every teacher will develop and manage their own web page and we strongly encourage all parents and students to register with School Loop. This is not only the primary means of communicating course progress (grades), but also teacher and school information. If you want to be in the “loop” be sure to register on School Loop. This will be true for ISP courses for the 2015-16 school year as well. All teachers have been trained and gradebooks are probably being updated as we speak. Log in and stay informed.

This will be an exciting year at EGCS. With all the program changes communication will be essential. Please contact your student’s workshop or ISP teacher if you have questions or feel free to call the office and set up a time to talk to me. Welcome back and best wishes for a successful 2014-15 school year.
